We decorated 20 bags!
About our project: We bought 20 cloth grocery bags. The girls decorated the bags with Earth Day stencils and silk screened mottos & symbols. They made a poster for display at the store. The morning of Earth Day, 2010, the bags & display were delivered. We asked the manager if the bags could be donated to those who might not otherwise buy a re-usable cloth bag, e.g., senior citizens, etc.. We spoke to the manager afterwards, and he said our project was a success, and that everyone who got a bag was delighted with the artwork the girls had done.

We decorated 365 bags!
About our project: After visiting a few supermarkets, I came across a very friendly and generous manager at Publix on Bird Road and 78th in Westchester Miami, who donated to us almost 400 bags for our project. It was not our local grocery store, but one of the only who were able to donate such a large amount of bags at once. After gratefully accepting the bags, we distributed to our teachers at North Hialeah Elementary. The students were very excited about participating in this project. Their bags expressed their concern for the Earth and persuading people to help. Some even gave tips on how to save our planet. We had all our grades participate, so we had everything from simple drawings and texts to more elaborate and detailed ones. All of them got there message across. Besides the students being excited about participating in this project, the teachers at North Hialeah Elementary were as well. Some of them even decorated their own bags! They were delivered back to the Publix on Bird Road and 78th and they were proudly used on Earth Day 2010!

We decorated 120 bags!
Prof.Ardelean Mariana-Simona G.P.P. Nr. 2 Marghita, jud. Bihor, Romania

We decorated 532 bags!
About our project: Our Story Link Elementary World School 2010 The students of the Link Elementary World School strive to be independent global learners and are always looking for opportunities to help either with their local or global community. During a meeting of Link’s environmental awareness group “The Green Link,” the Earth Day Groceries Project was presented. It was discussed and introduced to the students and families who were excited and jumped onboard immediately. Each student in the school was given a bag to decorate at home with their families. As the bags started returning to school, the excitement of the students continued to grow. The students began to ask to decorate more bags during their free time. By the time all the bags were collected, the students had decorated 532 bags! On Monday of the week of Earth Day, the bags were redistributed to Decicco Food Market and John’s Famous Bagels and Deli in New City, New York and the students’ messages of environment awareness began to spread. This project motivated our students to spread the “Going Green” philosophy by initiating many environmental actions in our community such as recycling, planting, conserving energy and water. We are proud to say that everyday is Earth Day at Link!

We decorated 200 bags!
About our project: This was our first year participating in the Earth Day Groceries Project. We contacted two local grocery stores, Pathmark and Shoprite, in the neighborhood where our school is located. The students learned all about Earth Day and keeping our planet clean through lessons, activities, literature, and homework extensions leading up to the actual project of decorating the grocery bags. The whole school celebrated Earth Day by listening to books, sharing information they learned, watching a "green" movie, kicking off a school wide recycling initiative and finally decorating the grocery bags with all of the knowledge they acquired. Everyone was very excited and everyone participated including the school nurse, the secretary, and the principal. The There was a winner from each class and a winner selected from the staff bags. Shoprite is choosing to display our bags around the store along with our pictures! Everyone is very excited for our community to see what the exceptional students and staff have created to celebrate Earth Day, not just today, but everyday.
